Novices

What better way to start the novices section than with some thoughts from Trevor Jones, a new Club member, on his impressions after 4 weeks on the job:

"I spent many months trying to get a feel for what the aero modelling thing was all about, visits to the DAC site in Bulleen observing, chatting to members, without being too intrusive, and I have to say that on each visit I became more enthralled with the idea and was made to feel very welcome and encouraged on each visit.

The standard of both modelling and flying will continue to be something that I can merely aspire to for some time yet. Finally I took the plunge, assembled a Ranger 40 trainer and began instruction.  My first impression of actually flying something that I had constructed was that it is very challenging, rewarding and exciting.  I am still a way off going solo but I am quite content to pick the brain of my instructor to the point where I become competent and my brain is not flying five seconds behind the model.

I have (ambitiously) already begun construction of a scale Bucker Jugmeister but recognise that I am a long way from the point where I will be ready to fly it.  In the meantime, the Ranger's capabilities in the hands of my instructor appears to have few limits -- but then Cliff is in the expert class, at the end of my rainbow.  If I can avoid my first accident then that, to me, is what competence through instruction means. This is a very rewarding pastime and the possibilities are all challenging."

Trevor and his first construction -- the Ranger. Well done Trevor.
