Interest Groups

There are as many different styles of planes and flying disciplines as the more grey haired of us have had hot dinners -- and equally many ways to group and describe them.  So the categories below simply reflect some general areas that apply to all (Novices and Sport) and then the most active, identifiable Interest Groups in the club.  You will find many of the most experienced members of the club are currently active across many Interest Groups -- and even more have moved through multiple Interest Groups but are currently focussed in specific areas.  Each section has a general description of the group's activities, a model gallery, and relevant links.

Novices

From the first day of flying to Solo rating and beyond.

Sport - IC

Internal combustion powered sport flying -- pure recreational fun!

Sport - Electric

Electric powered sport model flying -- one of the most rapidly evolving interest areas!

Gliding

7-Cell electric powered gliders -- a large interest area within the club

Aerobatics - F3A

The Formula One of radio controlled IC based model planes

Aerobatics - Scale

Still aerobatics, but based on Scale models of the real thing (making them a little more temperamental in flight than the F3A models.

Indoor

No barriers to full radio control models indoors these days (mostly electric)

Fun Fly

Looping, rolling and hovering, just like planes aren't meant to

Scale Modelling

Pure scale, gorgeous to look at but usually even harder and more limited to fly.

Old Timer

A casual and relaxing area enjoying vintage planes

Control Line

The oldy but goody many of us graduated from, and still going strong.

Rubber Power

Classic rubber band powered free flight

Helicopter

Electric and IC Helicopters
